President William Ruto has rescinded the appointments of four board members of the Kenya Railways Corporation.
According to a special gazette notice, these four individuals, who were initially appointed by former President Uhuru Kenyatta, will no longer serve on the board effective immediately.
“I, William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, hereby cancel the appointments of Mohammed Alawi Hussun, Dennis Aroka, Catherine Musakali, and Sumaiya Salim Mohamed as members of the Board of Directors of the Kenya Railways Corporation, effective from January 8, 2024,” reads the notice.
Mohammed Alawi and Catherine Musakali were appointed on October 6, 2021, while Dennis Aroka and Sumaiya Salim received their appointments on July 8, 2022, and July 13, 2022, respectively. All of them held the position of Independent Directors at the KRC.
This move is part of President William Ruto’s ongoing efforts to restructure various essential service sectors in the country. However, he has not yet announced their successors.
These changes are being implemented as the Kenya Kwanza administration is considering the privatisation of some state corporations.
