British American Tobacco (BAT) has been lauded as the top employer in Kenya and around the world as well as the company with a good working environment.
This coincides with its provision for unwavering commitment to its employees on an international level.
The company has been recognized and awarded five consecutive years, since 2017, by the Top Employers Institute for engaging culture and innovative working environment while attracting more talent and investing in quality employment standards.
The certification reiterates BAT Kenya’s sustained commitment to provide and uphold policies and practices that offer employees a conducive and productive place of work.
Top Employer Certification is conducted yearly after studying employee offerings of major employees around the world.
Crispin Achola, BAT Kenya Managing Director while receiving certification early this year said that the company strives to maintain a workplace where employees feel well supported even through the trying times.
“This certification recognises BAT’s inclusive, engaging culture and innovative working environment guided by our Ethos of Boldness, Fast action, Empowering employees, Diversity and Responsibility,” said Crispin.
In 2019, the liability company unveiled a rejuvenation plan in its headquarters in Nairobi.
Rejuvenation was aimed at creating a creative and innovative realm to deliver more energy, collaboration and agility across the organization to house BAT’s East and Central African Area (ECAA).
The multinational company with operations in Kenya since pre-colonial time recruits trainees annually and they make an approximate monthly salary of Ksh.100,000.
BAT Kenya offers not only good salaries but a competitive working environment that allows employees to develop career-wise.
It has approximately 5,000 shareholders around 4,000 of whom are local shareholders and has generated direct and indirect employment opportunities for more than 80,000 Kenyans through tobacco farming, processing, cigarrete manufacturing, distribution, retailing, transport, procurement and logistics.
Over the past five years, it has invested over Ksh.5 billion in tobacco farming and processing including at the Green Leaf Threshing Plant in Thika and the cigarette manufacturing factory in Nairobi.
BAT Kenya contributed over Ksh.80 billion to national revenue through various taxes Excise Duty, Value Added Tax (VAT), Pay as You Earn (PAYE) and Corporation Tax through the same period.
After BAT there are ten companies that fall on the list as best employers, including, Boehringer which operates globally and has headquarters in South Africa followed by DHL.
