President William Ruto announced crutial security reforms on Friday aimed at facilitating a leadership transition within Kenya’s National Police Service (NPS).
Among the changes was the resignation of Inspector General of Police Japthen Koome, a move accepted by President Ruto to pave the way for this transition.
Deputy Inspector General Douglas Kanja has been appointed as the acting Inspector General, in accordance with Section 16 of the National Police Service Act.
“The Head of State has, in accordance with Section 16 of the National Police Service Act, designated Douglas Kanja, CBS the Deputy-Inspector General of the Kenya Police Service as the acting Inspector-General of the National Police Service,” Ruto announced.
Key Security Changes
In addition, President Ruto announced several other key appointments and redeployments within the security sector:
– Noor Gabow has been redeployed within the Public Service.
– Eliud Langat is appointed as the acting Deputy Inspector General of the Kenya Police Service.
– James Kamau assumes the role of acting Deputy Inspector General within the Administration Police Service.

– Ranson Lolmodooni has been appointed as the Commandant of the General Service Unit (GSU).
– Gilbert Masengeli takes over as the Commandant of the Administration Police Training College (APTC) in Embakasi, Nairobi.
– William Yiampoy is appointed as the Director of Operations at Police Headquarters.
– Kainga Mathiu has been appointed as the Commandant of the National Police Leadership Academy (NPSA) in Ngong, Nairobi.
President Ruto said these changes, effective immediately, are aimed at enhancing the effectiveness and efficiency of Kenya’s homeland security agencies.
