President Kenyatta commissions construction of Kabete referral hospital

President Uhuru Kenyatta presided over the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the 700-bed capacity Kenya National Research and Referral Hospital (KNRRH) at Kabete Army Barracks in Nairobi County on Tuesday.

When complete, the level six hospital will offer specialized health services to the military, other security formations, and the public as part of government efforts to achieve the Universal Health Coverage pillar of the Big 4 agenda.

“So it’s the country as a whole that will benefit from what we are doing here and all these are part of our big four agenda to ensure that we are able to ensure that we are able to give our citizens our pledge of our Universal Health Coverage,” said the President.

The Head of State said his administration is on the progress of upgrading various hospitals in Nairobi to cater for the informal settlements and other health care facilities across the country.

The Hospitals which are set for the upgrade include Kenyatta National Hospital and Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital.

 He said, in realization of the UHC, he will be commissioning the level (IV) facility in Kahawa followed by another one in Isiolo.

The government is proceeding to develop facilities in Eldoret, Garissa, Manda in Lamu among other areas.

He said the aim is to ensure the officers are at the frontline of accessing quality health care closer to where they serve.

The Kenya National Research and Referral Hospital will not only serve the security agencies but also civilians.
