NTSA kicks off Boda riders registration countrywide

The registration of 2.5 million Boda Boda riders kicked off Monday across the country.

The exercise is expected to last by June 24, 2022.

According to Interior Cabinet Secretary (CS) Dr. Fred Matiang’i, the exercise will be presided by principal secretaries at all 52 Huduma Centres with a primary objective of issuing Smart Driving Licences to qualified riders.

“A registered Boda Boda rider will be issued with a Smart Driving Licence within the period upon the processing of registration information,” said Matiang’i.

For a rider to be registered, one needs to present himself or herself in person, have the original National Identification card, a copy of KRA PIN number and a phone with the rider’s number.

“A notification will be sent to the registered mobile number upon processing of the registration information.”

The registration is aimed at promoting road safety and security to riders and their customers as well as streamlining the transport subsector.

The riders were also asked to ensure they register with SACCOs after obtaining the licences.

In addition, the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) will provide 12 months health cover to the first 200,000 licensed boda boda riders.
