Former Law Society of Kenya (LSK) President Nelson Havi has been appointed the chairperson of the Retirement Benefits Authority (RBA).
His appointment came immediately after the National Treasury Cabinet Secretary Njuguna Ndungu revoked the appointment of Abdirahim Abdi.
“…the Cabinet Secretary for the National Treasury and Economic Planning appoints Nelson Havi to be a member and Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Retirement Benefits Authority for a period of three (3) years,” the notice reads.
Havi is among loyalists in William Ruto’s circle who drummed up support for his presidential bid in the run-up to the last year’s General Election.
He ran for the Westlands Member of Parliament position on a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket but was tossed out by Tim Wanyoni of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party.
CS Ndungu also appointed former Bomet East MP Beatrice Kones a member of the Local Authorities Provident Fund board.
“…the Cabinet Secretary for the National Treasury and Economic Planning appoints –Under subsection (a) Beatrice Kones to be a member of the Board of Directors of the Local Authorities Provident Fund, for a period of three (3) years, with effect from the10th February 2023.”
Both Kones and Havi will sit at the helm of the parastatals for three years.
