Narok Governor Tunai decries U.S travel advisory

The latest travel advisory by the United States against Kenya is likely to slow down the tourism sector that had begun showing signs of recovery from the impact of COVID-19.

According to Narok county Governor Samuel Tunai, the decision is unfortunate coming at a time when the spectacular wildebeest migration at the Maasai Mara game reserve is ongoing.

In its latest review, the US downgraded Kenya from level two to level three, which in turn will require U.S citizens to avoid all non-essential travel to Kenya and reconsider any planned travel.

In the notice, the U.S said the travel advisory against Kenya was over COVID-19 surge and terrorism further cautioning its citizens against visiting Nairobi neighborhoods of Eastleigh and Kibra due to crime and kidnapping.

The advisory came within a week after the UK also retained Kenya on its travel ban list amid rising COVID-19 cases in the country.

Tunai who is also the  Council of Governors (cog) Tourism and Wildlife chair has called upon the U.S government to consider reversing its earlier call to allow as many tourists as possible to visit Kenya and enjoy the famous wildebeests migration.

The great migration dubbed the 8th wonder of the world, involves an estimated 1.3 million wildebeest, 500, 000 gazelles, 18, 000 elands and 200, 000 zebras and fetches the country over Ksh.2 billion in revenues.
