Murang’a Senator opposes the Avocado Bill 2020

Murang’a Senator and senate majority deputy chief whip, Irungu Kangata has urged the Murang’a county assembly to reject the avocado bill 2020 saying that it will impose high taxes on farmers.

Kang’ata said if the bill is passed, the farmer will be required to get a permit whenever they want to plant and cut avocado trees, as well as transport the avocados to the market.

He further stated that the charges which are up to a tune of Ksh 200,000 will dent farmers’ pockets as well as increase the cost of producing avocados.

Murang’a county produces 80% of avocados in the country.
