Kenya Power workers have suspended their planned strike which had been set for October.
They have, however, agreed on a one-month negotiation with the Ministry of Energy and the Kenya Power management.
They were protesting KPLC’s board inference in the management of the company’s Safaricom Grid proposal which the union say favours the Telco and delays in putting Kenya Power staff on permanent contracts.
In the Smart Grid proposal, the communications firm commits to helping the power utility firm cut system losses by eight percent, translating to Ksh.10.4 billion, considering that a percentage of the system is equal to Ksh.1.3 billion.
Electricity workers have since been calling on the resignation of KPLC board chairperson Vivienne Yeda and directors–Elizabeth Rogo, Caroline Kittony and Sachen Gudka.
Senior board members at KPLC appeared before the National Assembly on Thursday last week but it did not end so well.
They appeared before the National Assembly Energy Committee to answer questions on the new scandal at the power distributor.

Chairman of the Committee David Gikaria was, however, forced to postpone the session since majority of members failed to turn up.
Only three board members, KPLC acting CEO Rosemary Oduor, Yeda and former CEO Ms Imedla Bosire appeared before the legislatures.
The Committee is demanding a conclusive and up-to-date report with regards to the management of KPLC by the board, where they are on the spot over a high number of meetings and perceived encroachment on the firm’s management.
The Kenya Private Sector Alliance, (KEPSA), has called for urgent clean-up of the rot at the troubled Kenya Power.
According to KEPSA, a radical surgery of the monopoly power distributor is necessary to restore order, efficiency and accountability at the cash strapped state corporation.
