Kenyan startup VunaPay, known for revolutionizing instant payments for farmers, has won the African leg of the prestigious Latitude59 Pitch Competition.
The victory secures VunaPay a coveted spot at the global event in Tallinn, Estonia, where it will compete at the main competition next year.
Latitude59, Europe’s flagship tech event, opened its African competition in October, inviting early-stage startups from across the continent to vie for a chance to pitch on the global stage. The competition, which boasts a €1 million (US$1.1 million) prize pool for the second consecutive year, received 382 applications from 37 countries.
Out of the ten startups selected for the African final, VunaPay stood out, impressing the judges with its innovative payment solutions tailored to farmers and its potential for scalability. The startup’s mission to simplify and expedite payments for agricultural communities resonated with the jury, securing its well-deserved win.
Additionally, Kenyan startup Twiva was honored with the “Walk the Talk” award from Infobip, receiving platform credits worth $20,000.
This achievement underscores the rising prominence of African startups in the global tech landscape, with companies like VunaPay leading the charge in driving impactful innovation.
