Two candidates sitting in for the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations were on Monday morning found in possession of mobile phones.
According to the Education Cabinet Secretary Professor George Magoha, the reported cases were in Nairobi.
“We have not had any serious incidents. We dismantled the cartels in primary school exams. We have noticed that they have formed another one. This morning we have two cases of students with cell phones. We shall allow them to take the exams. I want to warn any teacher who feels brave enough and opens the exam papers beforehand. We shall come for you,” he said.
This is after the CS issued a warning to teachers and supervisors over exam cheating.
In the year 2020, there were 287 cheating cases reported compared to 1,309 cases in the year 2019.
The cases were classified as 211 for unauthorised materials, 45 for mobile phones, 29 on collusion, one on impersonation and another one on a double script.
A total of 27 officials got fired including Centre Managers, supervisors and invigilators while 37 people were nabbed including two traders and three university students.
Cell phones totaling to 53 were confiscated from candidates.
A total of 831,015 candidates are being assessed when the papers got disseminated from 483 distribution centres nationwide.
In the year 2020, a total of 752,981 students sat for the KCSE exams in 10, 437 centres.
