Access to finance and markets for products are among the key challenges holding women back from growing and expanding their businesses in the manufacturing sector.
Today, during the launch of the study on women in manufacturing under the theme mainstreaming gender and inclusion, industry players said it’s fundamental to ensure equal participation of women in the manufacturing sector.
The Kenya Association of Manufacturers in partnership with the international center for research on women maintains that for fair participation, there is a need to unlock the hidden value of women thus reducing the gender gap and increasing their contribution to the national gross domestic product. However, hurdles such as access to finance remain the key challenge.
As such, the women in the manufacturing program hope to increase the participation of women in the industry and elevate the discourse on manufacturing in the country.
