The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has extended the period for presidential aspirants to have running mates to May 16, 2022.
IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati held a meeting with political parties where they agreed to extend the deadline by two weeks from the initial deadline of April 28, 2022.
Gubernatorial aspirants also have till May 16,2022 to name their running mates and submit their names to the Commission.
“The date for submission of aspirants list for presidential candidates and deputies as well as gubernatorial candidates and deputies will be on 16th of May next month,” said Chebukati.
Further, the IEBC boss stated that the deadline for the submission of names of aspirants for Member of National Assembly, Women Representative, Senate and Members of County Assembly remains to be April 28, 2022.
According to Chebukati, this would help the commission present names for clearance in accordance with chapter six of the constitution
“The other dates remain same, as you submit the names the commission reminds you to comply with the two-thirds gender rule”.
