FIFA has threatened to impose a ban on Football Kenya Federation (FKF) hardly a day after the Sports Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed disbanded the Federation.
FIFA in a statement, said the CS acted contrary to FIFA principles which require FKF to handle issues affecting it without any external interference.
“Should this be considered as under government interference in the internal affairs of FKF, it could lead to a ban imposed on FKF by the competent FIFA body,” said FIFA in a statement.
The world governing body has left the door open for negotiations by giving the government time to reverse its and by calling for a tripartite meeting with FKF and Ministry officials.
“In the event the decision to appoint a FKF Caretaker Committee and correlated secretariat was to be upheld, we would have no other choice than to submit the present matter to the Bureau of FIFA Council for consideration and decision.
On Thursday, CS Amina Mohamed disbanded the Nick Mwendwa-led-FKF and formed a caretaker Committee to rum the federation.
The committee, which has a six-month mandate, will be chaired by retired Justice Aaron Ringera.
“The registrar has forwarded the report to my office with recommendations that DCI, NIS and EACC carry out further investigation to establish the extent to which misappropriation of funds at FKF may have occurred with a view of prosecuting those who may be found culpable,” said CS Amina.
This is after the CS, received an audit report on FKF Thursday from Sports Registrar Rose Wasike.
During the course of the investigations, the current officials of FKF be removed from office to pave way for further investigations pending conclusion.
The report also calls for a special audit of the accounts of FKF and subsequent future audits.
It also warned against the current officials opening any bank accounts pending the investigations.
FKF President Nick Mwendwa has accused CS Amina Mohamed of planning to remove him from office illegally.
FIFA has, however, opened the door for discussions with the Kenyan government to hold a meeting to address any concerns both sides may be facing to decide a way forward for the sake of Kenyan football.
