Confusion as NTSA denies lifting suspension of Modern Coast bus license

The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has denied reports that it cleared Modern Coast Express to continue with operations.

On its twitter handle, NTSA said the suspension still stands, contradicting the earlier communication issued by Public Service Vehicle (PSV) Modern Coast that it was clear to continue with transport services.

“Update : Modern Coast Suspension; This is to notify members of the public that the suspension of Modern Coast Express has not been lifted.’ Reads the tweet.

On Tuesday morning, the highway operator assured its customers that they were to resume operations by midday after NTSA suspended their license last week following a fatal accident at Kiongwani area near Salama market along the Nairobi-Mombasa Highway on December 12, 2019.

“To our customers, we would like to clarify that we received the letter below from @ntsa_kenya lifting our suspension hence resumption of operation. Please note that the earlier communication was based on the letter below.” Said Modern Coast Company.

However, the clear communication from the company indicates that out of its 74 buses that were presented before NTSA for inspection, only 43 of them were cleared to be on the highway.

The bus’s operating license was struck off after it got involved in a fatal accident which saw two of their busses collide, claiming seven lives leaving 62 others injured.

A day earlier, another Modern Coast bus had been involved in an accident with a similar vehicle from Tahmeed Company.
