Coffee prices pick in new season as prices of brown bean increases by 6.4%

Kenya’s brown bean kicked off the new season at the auction on a high of KSh.11,500 for a 50 kilogram bag this week denoting a 6.4% increase compared to ten thousand eight hundred shillings in the last sale.

Data from the Nairobi Coffee Exchange however indicates that the price of Kenya’s premium bean grade AA dropped 2.4%to trade at an average price of KSh.18,200 shillings from KSh.18,700 shillings traded on the last sale of the previous season.

The report also shows that the auction transferred 16, 700 bags this week, which was about 5000 more bags than the 11,800 bags, offered on the last auction.

Subsequently, the value of the transactions on the opening sale of the season increased by 50% to stand at KSh.200,000,39 million  compared to KSh200, 000, 057 million the previous sale.
