The National Assembly suspended voting on the division of revenue Bill 2021 Thursday to agitate for the release of constituency development funds.
Earlier, the Speaker of the National Assembly, Justin Muturi was forced to adjourn the House’ afternoon sitting after the House failed to raise the required numbers to debate the bill.
The Bill which was tabled by the Budget and Appropriations Committee Chairman, Kanini Kega, sought to allocate Ksh.409.88 billion to county governments, with the county equitable share of revenue being set at Lsh.370 billion.
The House adjourned its sittings to proceed on recess until March 23 when the debate on the bill is expected to resume.
In October last year, President Uhuru Kenyatta at State House, Nairobi signed into law the 2020/2021 County Revenue Allocation Bill paving the way for the disbursement of exchequer funds to the Counties.
The new law allocates a sum of Ksh.369.87 billion in the current fiscal year to Counties and includes Ksh.316.5 billion of Equitable Share and Ksh.13.73 billion in Government of Kenya Conditional Grants.
Also included was Ksh.9.43 billion from the Road Maintenance/Fuel Levy as well as Ksh.30.2 billion in Loans and Grants.
The conditional allocation is meant to be utilized in the provision of services such as leasing of medical equipment and rehabilitation of youth polytechnics across all 47 Counties.
