Mau Mau veteran petitions ouster of Ruto as DP

A Mau Mau veteran has filed a petition at the Milimani court demanding the ouster of Dr. William Ruto as Kenya’s Deputy President.

Through a lawsuit filed under a certificate of urgency, Mzee Michael K.Kirungia alleges the DP has defied his constitutional role as the president’s assistance and embarked on a bid to benefit himself by preparing for the August 9, 2022, general election.

“The deputy party leader of Jubilee and who is the principal assistant of the president of the Republic of Kenya has failed to do the function of the Deputy President as the principal assistant of the president,” said Kirungia.

Further, the DP is accused of defying  Article 147 (1)(2) of the Kenyan constitution by failing to discharge his role as the president’s principal assistant.

The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) boss is also accused of committing a crime under the oaths and Statutory Declaration Act Cap 15(II) laws of Kenya and further defying Article 148(5) under the National Oaths and Affirmations Third Schedule.

Kirungia wants the DP prohibited from using the office of the Deputy President and the official residence to conduct meetings of the UDA, with the court being asked to declare that he defied Article 150 (1) (b)(i)(ii)(iii) of the constitution on the code of conduct aligned for the Deputy President.
