Government bans Mashujaa day celebrations in counties

The government has banned parallel Mashujaa Day celebrations at the County level.

Interior Principal Secretary Dr. Karanja Kibicho cited the increase in number of the coronavirus pandemic infections in the country.

“Kirinyaga County will be the host for this year’s Mashujaa Day. No celebrations will be held in other counties as it has always been the case. We don’t want to escalate the spread of Covid-19, and that is why we are freezing similar activities in other counties,” said Dr. Kibicho.

This even as the country is assessing the situation in Kirinyaga County which is expected to host Mashujaa Day celebration this year at a National level

The National Celebrations Committee, chaired by Dr. Kibicho in Kirinyaga to asses the county’s readiness to host 2021 Mashujaa Day celebrations,” said Interior Ministry on its twitter account.

The Construction of a State Lodge, which will also house the County Commissioner’s residence, is nearing completion in the county.

Kirinyaga will join Nakuru, Machakos, Meru, Nyeri, Kakamega, Mombasa, Narok, and Kisii that have hosted two of the three national holidays.

In 2015 President Uhuru Kenyatta directed that the celebrations be held outside Nairobi on a rotational basis.

Kenya celebrated her Mashujaa Day last year in Kisii County.

Mashujaa Day is celebrated on October 20th of every year. If the day falls on a Sunday, the following Monday is usually considered a holiday.
