Kenya Airways resumes flights to India

National carrier Kenya Airways has resumed flights to India, ending to a four-month hiatus  announced in April this year.

Flights from Nairobi to Mumbai commenced Thursday.

The carrier had announced the suspension following a government directive on travel between India and Kenya due to a COVID-19 crisis citing a new, highly infectious coronavirus strain.

India, one of Kenya’s main trading partners, accounted for 102,600 passenger arrivals through the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) in 2019, and was the second-largest source of imports valued at Ksh.178.8 billion.

A large number of patients from Kenya also travel to India every year for specialised medical treatment, especially cancer care, helping to drive medical tourism in the densely populated country that boasts affordable and easily accessible healthcare.
