India registered 979 COVID-19 deaths in the last 24 hours, setting a record low of daily deaths to below 1,000 mark since April 13 this year.
The country’s Health Ministry said 46,148 new cases were also recorded, taking the country’s total infections to 30.2 million, while the death toll now stands at 396,730.
The active cases declined to 5,72,994 comprising 1.89 percent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate has improved to 96.80 percent.
Recoveries continue to outnumber daily new cases for the 46th consecutive day. The number of people who have recuperated from the disease surged to 2,93,09,607, while the case fatality rate stands at 1.31 percent.

The daily positivity rate was recorded at 2.94 percent. It has been less than five percent for 21 consecutive days, the ministry said, adding the weekly positivity rate has declined to 2.81 percent.
A total of 396,730 deaths have been reported so far in the country.
As of Sunday, India’s Health Ministry said that vaccination coverage in the country had exceeded 320 million doses.
