Tourists shying away from fourteen falls

By Daisy Okanga | There has been a rising concern in Kiambu county’s tourism sector after dead bodies were retrieved from fourteen falls.

Peter Njoroge, the chairman of the fourteen falls said this is more rampant especially during the rainy season thus scaring tourist in the region.,

The region is known for attracting tourists but due to high insecurity the number of tourists has dwindled.

Tour guides in the region have raised complain to respective authorities over fears that their revenue collection has over the months been on the low due to tourists not turning up. The authorities have in the past put out strategies to develop the tourism potential through major investments. However, due to insecurity the performance in the sector has gone down.

Fourteen falls is a scenic known for fishing, photography boat riding and bird watching. According to a report unveiled by Tourism and Wildlife Cabinet Secretary, Najib Balala, Kenya received nearly 2.05 million tourists last year, denoting an increase of 1.1 percent. Kenya’s earnings from the tourism sector has indicated positive earning when it posted a 3.9 percent increase to Ksh163.56 billion in 2019. This was attributed to the increase in the number of visitors.
