Uganda records 49 COVID deaths in 24 hours with over 1,000 new cases

Uganda is witnessing an exponential rise in the number of COVID-19 infections and deaths.

From the latest official data, Uganda has recorded the highest number of deaths in a day.

According to the Ministry of Health 49 people succumbed to the virus in the last 24 hours, double the number of deaths recorded previous day.

Cumulatively, 508 people have lost their lives to the virus.

Uganda also recorded 1,110 new infections with a positivity rate of 15.3 percent bringing the country’s caseload to 65,631.

950 patients are currently fighting for their lives in various health facilities across the country.

So far, Uganda has tested 1,217,352 people and recorded 48,649 recoveries.

Meanwhile, the country has received a short in the arm in its fight against the virus after receiving a donation of 175,200 doses of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine from France through the COVAX facility.

The doses will be in addition to the 864,000 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine it received through COVAX and 100,000 doses from the Indian government.

Additionally, through the National Enterprise Corporation, Uganda’s commercial arm of armed forces, the country has started the production and supply of oxygen cylinders and face masks for the ailing population.

So far, 806,129 persons have been vaccinated against the virus.
