The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) is counting losses in Embu County after ballot boxes and papers for nominations were reduced into ashes.
UDA disciplinary committee has summoned Norman Nyaga and John Muchirito to appear for a hearing at the Hustler’s Centre Nairobi after the arson and destruction of party poll materials in Embu on Wednesday ahead of the Thursday polls.
Deputy President William Ruto dispatched Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen, Bernard Koros and George Murugara to probe the matter after a lorry transporting UDA party nomination material to Embu was attacked and nomination material burnt.
“In the fullness of time we will make sure the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) bring all the perpetrators to justice,” said the Elgeyo Marakwet Senator.
He assured citizens that the nominations will go on as planned despite the few aspirants who feel insecure on the poll.
The aspirants are expected to appear in person or bring along a member of UDA or advocate of the High Court of Kenya for representation.
“The disciplinary committee hereby summons you to appear before it on Saturday, April 16 at 9:00 am for the hearing of the matter at the Hustler’s Centre on Makindi Road off RiaraRoad in Nairobi,” read the statement.
In a statement released on Wednesday evening, there is evidence of video footage, information and material linking the two to the incident at the Izaak Walton Inn.
The report further explained that the youth saw and tracked the lorry from Mbeere South, 15 kilometers away from the alleged scene of the arson.
The party leadership also stated that any aspirant who causes chaos or plans to destroy nomination materials will be disqualified immediately.
This happens as the party primaries see delays in different constituencies across the country such as Kiambu, Nakuru and Mt. Elgon areas.
