U.K Gives Kenya Ksh.82 Million for Green Infrastructure Projects

The UK has also partnered with the World Bank and the European Union to support Africa’s electricity transmission and assist the continent in addressing the adverse effects of climate change. 

The United Kingdom has announced a Ksh.82 million cash for Kenya.

The funds will go into green infrastructure projects – according to the U.K

This is the first plan to link the African Green Industrialisation Initiative, and the G7 PGII.

The package was announced on the sidelines of the ongoing G7 meeting in Italy.

Italy and the United States are collaborating on clean energy, sustainable agriculture, and e-mobility projects, starting with potential projects in Kenya.

On Thursday, Italy joined U.S. and EU efforts to promote sustainable development along the Lobito Corridor.

They are working to strengthen collaboration and mobilize an additional aggregate contribution of up to $320 million in investment in support of the core rail infrastructure and of the related side projects, with a view to additionally creating synergies with AGIA (Alliance for Green Infrastructure in Africa).

“The Co-chairs welcomed Italy’s renewed commitment to boost development in Africa including by deepening partnerships with African Nations through its Mattei Plan for Africa (MPA), and stressed their commitment to increase coordination between PGII, MPA and the EU’s Global Gateway, to maximize our collective impact as we work to develop transformative economic corridors in Africa,” reads the statement from the White House.

The UK has also partnered with the World Bank and the European Union to support Africa’s electricity transmission and assist the continent in addressing the adverse effects of climate change. 

This includes a Ksh.2.4 billion pledge towards the Zambia-Tanzania interconnector to boost the Ksh39 billion project that is set to link the Southern and East African Power infrastructure to aid in economic development and poverty reduction. 

The funding also includes Ksh.9.3 billion towards the Climate Compatible Growth Programme to assist African countries develop climate-resilient infrastructure.
