Odinga withdraws his Ksh.1 million dinner

Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Raila Odinga has postponed his dinner to a later date.

The Ksh.1 million dinner was received well by the majority of Kenyans and according to organisers, there was a need to relook into the venue due to the larger number of people who were to attend.

According to Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino, the postpone is to allow to secure a larger venue which would accommodate a larger number of attendees.

“Dinner postponed to a later date due to overwhelming support, this will enable us to prepare well and get a bigger venue,” said Owino.

The diner has been scheduled to take place at Villarosa Kempinski on December 7, 2021 and was meant to raise campaign funds for Odinga.

“Due to unanticipated overwhelming support, the dinner has been postponed to a later date for better planning. Apologies for the inconvenience caused,” said Odinga.

The focus will now shift to the December 10, 2021, public event which Odinga is expected to make a grand announcement about his 2022 presidency.

This event is most likely to attract over 60,000 Kenyans.

Junet Mohammed, Suna East MP Junet Mohamed, who is Raila’s confidante, told Nation that 200 MPs, 40 senators and 40 Governors are expected to attend.

“This is the biggest even so far this year, what you can call the mother of all gatherings. Baba will be addressing the Nation. Over 200 MPs, 40 Senators and 40 governors have confirmed their availability. It is like a rehearsal for presidential swearing-in,” he said.

Even though Odinga is expected to declare his interest in running for the presidency, would not ring anything different from the obvious, because he has been on a campaign trail latest popularizing his Azimio La Umoja Initiative.

But it will be important to wait and hear if it is then that Odinga would name his running mate for the 2022 presidential race.
