More than 750,000 candidates are sitting the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination that has kicked off countrywide.
The national test will run to April 21 with practical subjects like agriculture, computer, arts, woodwork, and metalwork having started last month.
It is the first time KCSE is being done in March after the coronavirus pandemic disrupted the education calendar last year.
Following the advent of the virus in March last year, the government shut down schools across the country in a bid to stop the spread of the disease.
Form four candidates spent a term at home before going back to class in September.
Education Cabinet Secretary Professor George Magoha is leading top government officials in monitoring the administration of the exam.
