Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i has created a new Sub-County in Laikipia with an aim of enhancing security and service delivery.
The new sub-county has been named Kirima.
This new move is meant to bring government and security agencies closer to the parts of Sipili and Ng’arua.
It comes with a sub county police commander, who will enhance faster response from security agencies.
Matiang’i is in Laikipia to review ongoing police defence against bandits who have terrorised local residents in the region.
Schools and homes have been torched, and hundreds of families have been left homeless.
Melgwete Primary school in the troubled County was on September 8 set on fire by suspected bandits, barely a day after CS Matiangi declared a dusk-to-dawn curfew in Laikipia’s Nature Conservancy and its environs.

The recent attacks have been linked to some politicians who are believed to be financing the bandits.
So far, two politicians including Tiaty MP William Kamket and Former Laikipia North Member of Parliament Mathew Lempurkel have been arrested.
The military is offering air support in the operation and so far several government agencies are involved in the exercise.
Matiangi said they are determined to solve the crisis that recurs every election time once and for and told local leadership to support operations.
A major operation with military support has been launched to permanently end the Laikipia violence that breaks before every general election.
