The Kenya National Highway Authority (KeNHA) has temporarily put to a stop the ongoing construction of a footbridge at Witeithie along Thika Superhighway.
This follows a public uproar and numerous complaints over a prolonged gridlock at the area for almost two days.
“Section of Thika Superhighway at Witeithie will be partially closed for motorists from Friday 27th December to Saturday 28th December due to the planned erection of the footbridge.” Reads a statement in part.
The authority urged motorists to comply with the notice.
“We request motorists to cooperate and comply with the proposed traffic management plan and as directed by the traffic marshals.”
Earlier on, KeNHA had expressed concerns that the contractor experienced hiccups when hoisting the superstructure for the pedestrian footbridge on Monday causing heavy traffic.
