KeNHA gives new alternative routes to ease traffic as Expressway nears completion

Nairobi Motorists have been offered new alternative routes to ease traffic in the city due to the ongoing construction of the Ksh.72.8 billion Nairobi Expressway.

In an update by the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) Tuesday, a number of new routes have so far been finished along the main Mombasa Road (A8) and are ready for motorists.

They include; Gateway Mall – Hilton Garden Inn, Sameer Park – Southern Bypass, David Osieli Road – Agha Khan School and Museum Hill underpass.

However, the following are traffic-prone areas which KeNHA has asked motorists to keep off.

U-Turn from Allpack service road

Access from the service lane to Mombasa road has been blocked to reduce congestion on the main carriageway ad KeNHA says motorists can make a U-Turn at Mlolongo.

Gateway Mall

Ongoing excavation and protection of an oil pipeline that crosses under the Expressway on the A8 road.

GM Area

There is a temporary diversion to pave way for the ongoing works around this area.

Capital Centre

Ongoing rehabilitation of the A8 road (Mombasa bound lane) necessitates traffic to be diverted to the town bound lane.

Bunyala Round About –University Way

KeNH says construction work is stil ongoing along this area.

However, the Haile Selassie – University Way Round About is set to be opened on December 15, 2021, together with Gateway Mall.

According to KeNHA, traffic management from Mlolongo to Westlands along the Highway remains a critical component of the project which is 76.4 percent complete.

The Kenyan government procured China Communications Construction Company (CCCC), the parent firm of China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC) to manage the construction work of the mega highway.
