“I dare you to defy bail terms!” DPP Haji warns Governor Waititu

Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji has issued a stern warning to the embattled Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu against opening parallel office to run County business.

On Friday morning when he addressed the media, DPP Haji said the Governor risks being arrested again should he defy the bail terms that were directed to him by the court.

“We shall take actions and arrest them if they do. To avert constitution paralysis and malice organs of government charged with law enforcement must be prepared to wage consistest and ruthless war against all forms of crime in order to secure the future of our children not we shall not be intimidated.” Said Haji.

The warning has also been directed to Samburu Governor Moses Lenolkulal who was in April, charged with four counts of abuse of office and conflict of interest leading to the embezzlement of Ksh84, 695,996 million public funds.

He was accused of trading with the County through Oryx petrol station leading to payment amounting to Ksh84.6 million

DPP’s dire warning follows a ruling on Wednesday when Deputy Speaker Prof. Kithure Kindiki ruled that Waititu and Lenolkulal can continue carrying out their duties as governors only that they cannot access the County offices.

He cautioned leader to let the prosecutorial system run its course so that suspects prove their innocence within the courtroom.

However, Haji faulted the judiciary for allowing suspects in public office to defy orders a move he said, goes against the Constitution.

In July, Governor Waititu was charged with six counts over a Ksh580 million irregular tender in Kiambu County.

He was charged alongside his wife Susan Wangari Ndung’u and eight others at the Milimani Law Courts following a recommendation by DPP Haji last Friday.
