Hostility rocks Ruto’s campaign on day 2 of his Nyanza tour

Deputy President William Ruto faced a rowdy crowd in Kisumu’s Kondele region Tuesday on his second day campaign in Nyanza.

The crowd was seen hurling stones at Ruto’s convoy, causing a commission between them and the DP’s security detail.

The police were, however, forced to lob tears gas to neutralize the rowdy youth.

“Kisumu hii ni Kenya. Na Kisumu hii tutahakikisha tumekomboa Kisumu kutoka mambo ya mawe,” said Ruto.

It all started when he called on Kisumu residents to vote for him because he was the most preferred candidate to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Migori Governor Okoth Obado is among the leaders who have accompanied Ruto on his tour of Kisumu.

Ruto had earlier made successful addresses on Obote Road and Jua Kali in Kisumu Central.

He landed at the Susan Owiyo Arts Centre in Kisumu on Tuesday to start his three-day tour in the Nyanza region.

On Thursday, his final day in the region, the DP will crisscross Homa Bay county to market his bottom-up development plan, which he has described as revolutionary and the gateway to economic liberation.
