Dr. Patrick Amoth elected Chair of Executive Board of WHO in Geneva

Kenya’s acting Director-General in the Ministry of Health, Dr. Patrick Amoth, has been appointed the President of the World Health Organisation (WHO) Executive Board.

Dr. Harsh Vardhan, the union’s Health Minister announced Wednesday during 149th session of the WHO Executive board.

Dr. Amoth was in May 2020, elected Vice President of the Executive Board of the WHO.

A consultant obstetrician and gynecologist, Dr. AMoth previously headed the Directorate of Public Health at the Ministry.

He formerly headed the Department of Health Sector Coordination and Intergovernmental Affairs.

He also severed as a Chief Medical Specialist and Senior Deputy Director of Medical Services at Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital Nairobi.

Dr. Patrick Amoth has a degree in Medicine from the University of Nairobi’s Medical School and a Masters in Obstetrics and Gynaecology from the same institution.

He also holds a Diploma in Health Systems Management from Galilee College in Israel
