A census enumerator is currently recuperating in hospital after she was gang raped on Saturday night.
The enumerator attached to Maseno, in Kisumu County was accosted by a gang of men who raped her. She was also robbed off her personal belongings as she was returning home at night after completing the exercise.
Confirming the incident, Nyanza police boss Dr. Vincent Makhoha said the victim was attacked by unknown attackers outside her gate, adding that the incident occurred moments after she had been dropped off by her supervisor after the census exercise on Saturday night
A manhunt has been launched on the attackers who are believed to have taken habitat in a thicket near the enumerator’s gate in wait.
Following the unfortunate incident, the supervisor as well as police officers who were deployed in the area to offer security for the census team have been summoned to record statements with the police in Maseno who are probing the incident.
The attackers made away with the woman’s torch and power bank, leaving behind other census material.
