Bolt Reports 46% Drop in Offline Pickup for Safer Customers

The reduction stems from stricter enforcement measures, including proactive detection and swift action against offline activity, alongside security features designed to deter transactions outside the app.

Bolt Kenya has reported a 46% decrease in offline (off-app) trips on its platform over the past six months, owing to the company’s robust safety enhancements aimed at protecting passengers and drivers alike.

The drop is an indication that there is increased adherence to Bolt’s safety protocols and marks a meaningful step toward safer ride-hailing practices in Kenya.

The reduction stems from stricter enforcement measures, including proactive detection and swift action against offline activity, alongside security features designed to deter transactions outside the app.

Such off-app trips mean to bypass critical safety tools like GPS tracking, identity verification, and emergency assistance, posing risks to users.

“This decline in offline trips signals a major shift toward safer, more accountable ride-hailing behavior in the market,” said Dimmy Kanyankole, General Manager, Kenya and Tanzania.

“It reflects the impact of our work behind the scenes to protect passengers and drivers and to ensure the integrity of every trip on our platform.”

It comes against the backdrop of Bolt’s rollout of its multiple initiatives, among them: a strict no-tolerance stance on off-app violations, real-time trip oversight, and an automated system to detect unusual behavior.

The company has also expanded driver training and launched awareness campaigns to educate users about the dangers of off-platform trips.

Offline trips remain an industry-wide challenge, as they lack the tracking, verification, and protections provided by app-based systems.

“Safety isn’t just a tool—it’s a mindset we’re cultivating, one ride at a time.”

“We’re encouraged by this progress but know there’s more to do. We’ll keep working with regulators, stakeholders, and the community to elevate safety standards industry-wide.”

Bold said in a statement that it encourages passengers to book exclusively through the app and decline offline offers from drivers, ensuring access to vital features like live tracking, driver ratings, in-app SOS options, and round-the-clock support.
