Safaricom will be conducting a maintenance exercise on its mobile money product M-Pesa starting Tuesday, October 19, 2021 to early hours of Wednesday.
Safaricom says that the enhancement to M-Pesa systems will start from 1159 PM and is scheduled to end at 4 AM, Wednesday, October 20, 2021.
This means that Kenyans using M-Pesa should make the necessary arrangements if they plan to transact over that period.
“We are constantly investing and innovating M-PESA to ensure that we continue to meet the needs of our customers as well as continue to support our partners in their business ambitions,”
Safaricom regularly undertake enhancements and maintenance of its systems from time to time.
M-Pesa is now part and parcel of Kenyans because it is traditionally local. It has grown to be more than a mobile money product for sending and receiving cash.
It has powerful business tools that are used widely by local and international businesses.
M-Pesa poses as the top revenue earner for the telco. It would also make sense why it is sitting at the top because it started operations first back in 2007.
Owing to the number of customers Safaricom commands, and the manner the carrier pushed the product, it is not very hard to see why similar services cannot compete.
In Kenya, the market share of M-Pesa in the mobile money space is at more than 100 percent.
It has more than 30 million local active users. The number is even higher at 50 million in the markets that use M-PESA in Africa.
