The second edition of the Africa Digital Finance Summit (AFDS) kicked off Wednesday, February 23, 2022, in Villa Rosa Kempinski Nairobi
The 3-day hybrid summit themed ‘The future of finance in Africa; Our pathway to financial freedom’ is aimed at bringing together governments, central banks across Africa, start-ups, professionals and decision-makers across the world in financial, economic and technology.
AFDS, an annual summit, comes on the backdrop of the free trade agreement in Africa to steer conversation of redefining value exchange for Africans.
It also aims to encourage Africans to leverage digital finance and decentralized finance in their businesses and everyday transactions.
Mary Njoki, the Chief Executive of Glass House PR, the summit organizer said the forum will follow the footsteps of its predecessor which took place last year.
“This is a Summit for bold, visionary leaders who are willing to disrupt as much as they are willing to create, who know what to give up as much as what they expect to gain,” said the CEO.
The inaugural summit, themed “decentralized finance” brought over 50 keynote speakers and a pool of over 1000 participants.
Kenya embarked on its digital transformation journey that informed the formulation of the country’s digital economic plan.
“The digital economy strategy, derived from the digital economy blueprint, seeks to remodel the approach to digital inclusion. It thus seeks to transform Kenya into a digitally adaptive, skilled, and innovative workforce that will not only comprehend, adopt, and move with global trends but chart their own digital pathways towards inclusive growth and development,” said Chief Administrative Secretary, Ministry of ICT Maureen Mbaka when she officiated the summit.
First-day discussions revolved around the blockchain and other frontier technologies to further finance trade.
The world’s top business brains will be reviewing business within the continent and viewing possibilities of partnerships and shifting to digital currency.
The summit will also seek to recognize various players in the industry and award them for their contributions.
