Kenya on Monday reported its lowest number of daily COVID-19 infections and positivity rate in months.
In a statement from the National Emergency Response Committee (NERC), Kenya reported 66 new COVID-19 cases from a sample size of 1,833 tests conducted over the past 24 hours, taking the country’s caseload to 163,620.
In March, Kenya recorded an average of 900 daily cases and slightly more than 800 infections in April.
According to the figures released by the Ministry of Health, the country’s positivity rate also dropped to 3.6 percent up from 7.4 percent on Sunday.
The sharp drop in daily cases and positivity rate coming barely 10 days after President Uhuru Kenyatta eased containment measures.
Data from the government further shows that 12 more COVID-19-related deaths were also recorded in the same period, bringing Kenya’s cumulative fatalities to 2,907.
1,737 more recoveries were also reported pushing the total number of recoveries to 112,298.
In terms of vaccination, 917,068 persons had received COVID-19 vaccine by Monday, May 10, 2021. Of those vaccinated, 280,876 are above 58 years, health workers 160,947, teachers 143,684, security officers 77,417 while 254,144 are in the others category.
