Residents of Kirkuria in Keekenyokie ward, Kajiado County are set to wave goodbye to the perennial water problems that have bedeviled them for years.
This is after the County Government through the Emergency fund repaired and upgraded a borehole in the area that broke down years ago.
Over 800 households and 5000 livestock are set to benefit from the water project. The water from the borehole will also serve pupils from Kirkuria Primary School and the neighboring area of Italala.
Speaking when he handed over the borehole to the community, Deputy Governor Martin Moshisho noted that the project would be a great relief to locals who have previously had to walk for many kilometers in search of the commodity.
“The water project is of great relief to the people who have long yearned for the repair and upgrade of their local borehole. The water has been networked to the local primary school where the pupils had to walk for long distances to get water for use at school,” said Moshisho.
Moshisho said residents could now concentrate on other income generating activities as water had been channeled near their homes thus saving on time previously wasted in search of water for miles for livestock and domestic use.
He called on the community to take advantage of the steady supply of water and engage in farming activities which will ensure that they are well secured and generate an income for them.
Residents of Kikuria village welcomed the project adding that it would change their lives and sour development in the area.
Similarly, residents of Namanga, Samaria and Olgulului will benefit from freshwater tapped from Mount Oldonyo Orok.
Water tapped from the mountain will be stored at a 450,000 litres capacity tank at Oldonyo Orok while in Namanga, a 225,000 litres storage tank from where the water will be pumped will serve over 50,000 residents of the town.
