Kenya’s COVID-19 positivity rate has dipped further to its lowest level exactly one month since the enforcement of new restrictions to curb the spread of the virus came into force.
The new positivity rate of 10.9 percent follows the confirmation of 194 new COVID-19 cases from a sample size of 1,779 tested in the last 24 hours.
The new cases have pushed the country’s total number of confirmed COVID-19 positive cases to 156,981.
According to the National Emergency Response Committee on Coronavirus, 184 of the newly confirmed cases are Kenyans while 10 are foreigners, with the youngest being a 9-year old and the oldest being 90 years old.
Among the five counties that have been classified by the Government as a Disease Infected Zone, Nairobi County led with 115 new cases followed by Kiambu with 12 cases, Kajiado 9 cases, Machakos 6, and Nakuru with 3 cases.
At the same time, the Committee has announced 21 deaths in the last 24 hours with one having occurred in the last 24 hours and 20 on diverse dates within the last one month. The cumulative fatalities now stand at 2,643.
At the same time, 248 patients have recovered from the disease; 218 were under Home Based and Isolation Care while 30 are from various health facilities countrywide.
This has pushed the total recoveries in the country to 106,836, 77,822 of which are from Home Based Care and Isolation while 29,014 are from various health facilities.
1,417 patients are currently admitted in various health facilities countrywide, while 6,959 patients are on Home Based Isolation and Care. Currently, there are 205 patients in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 42 of whom are on ventilatory support and 133 on supplemental oxygen. 30 patients are on observation.
Meanwhile, the number of individuals that have been vaccinated against COVID-19 in Kenya has so far reached 826,617. Out of that number, 477,754 are aged 58 years and above. 152,809 health workers have been vaccinated while 126,801 teachers and 69,253 security officers have received the COVID-19 jab.
