Several parts of the country are likely to experience near to above average rainfall this month especially during the first three weeks.
According to the Kenya Meteorological Department, April marks the peak month of the long rains season.
“April marks the peak month of the “Long Rains” season. The outlook for April 2021 indicates that several parts of the country are likely to experience near to above average rainfall,” said the weatherman.
The weatherman is projecting rainfall in the Lake Victoria basin, the highlands west of the rift valley and the central and south rift valley.

The north-eastern parts of the country are, however, likely to receive depressed rainfall. The distribution is likely to be poor both in time and space over northeast especially towards the end of the month.
Some days may be characterized by heavy storms especially over the south-eastern low lands, the highlands east of the rift valley including Nairobi County, the northwest and the highlands west of the rift valley.
The met department is urging the farming communities to take advantage of the expected rains and maximize crop yield through appropriate land-use management.
The forecast further shows that the expected rainfall may result in occasional flooding in flood prone areas over the Lake Victoria basin and the highlands west of the rift valley.
Land and mudslides are likely in the hilly areas of the highlands east and west of the rift valley.
