
The government has spent Ksh230 million in fighting the desert locusts which have invaded various parts of the country.
Addressing the media on Tuesday, Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya said the government intends to spend a further Ksh300 million in locust control, an exercise projected to proceed until June.
This comes in the wake of heightened concern on locust-control measures employed by the government to mitigate the locusts which have so far been reported in 26 counties.The affected areas include Marsabit, Isiolo, Marsabit, Samburu, Turkana and Garissa.
The Agriculture CS is expected to flag off three additional planes on Wednesday which is aimed at stepping up aerial spraying programme in locust infested counties.
Former CS for Agriculture Mwangi Kiunjuri had announced in January a Ksh230 million allocation in the fight against the locust invasion which had hit about eight counties.
