Kenya Electricity Generating Company has reassured Kenyans of stable and adequate power supply through the festive season, citing strong performance from its hydropower assets.
In a statement issued on Monday, the utility said the Seven Forks hydro cascade is delivering robust output, boosting the country’s supply of low-cost renewable electricity despite continued volatility in global energy markets.
Managing Director and CEO, Peter Njenga, said total hydro generation as of the morning of December 8 stood at 473.14MW, against an installed capacity of 600.4MW.
Dam level readings showed major reservoirs operating safely within optimal ranges, with Masinga at 1,054.49 metres, Kamburu at 1,005.04 metres, Gitaru at 923.18 metres, Kindaruma at 780.05 metres and Kiambere at 697.44 metres.

Eng. Njenga said the healthy reservoir levels reflect effective water resource management, enabling consistent power generation even during periods of low rainfall.
He added the strong performance proves Kenya’s disciplined approach to energy planning and long-term national energy security, as many countries struggle with climate volatility and rising power costs.
