Ethiopia’s Tad Motors Launches its Electric Cars in Kenya

Tad Motors officially entered Kenya’s electric vehicle market with the launch of its first Electric Vehicle lineup, which was unveiled in Nairobi.

The event, held on November 27, brought together senior government officials, diplomats, investors, and technology partners.

Present was Foreign Affairs Principal Secretary Dr. Korir Sing’Oei who urged global investors to pay close attention to Kenya’s rapidly evolving innovation ecosystem.

“Kenya is open for investment. We are creating an enabling environment where ideas like Tad Motors can scale across the continent and beyond,” he said, and Kenya is on course to become a regional hub for clean mobility in Africa.

The Embassy of South Sudan was represented by Ambassador Ida, who said Africa’s advancement relies on deeper cooperation between nations, stating, “Innovation knows no borders — and neither should cooperation.”

UNEP’s Programme Officer for Sustainable Mobility, Alexander Koerner said the environmental urgency behind the shift to cleaner transport solutions.

“Shifting to electric vehicles is not just innovation — it’s a climate imperative,” he said, aligning Tad Motors’ entry into the market with international climate goals.

Tad Motors CEO, Eng. Tadesse Tessema, expressed gratitude to the partners and policymakers who played a key role in bringing the launch to fruition.

“We’re humbled and energized by the support from our partners, innovators, and the community who made this day possible,” he said, noting that government support has been central to the company’s progress.

“The Kenyan government’s commitment to sustainable industrialization has been instrumental in bringing this vision to life.”

Guests were introduced to the company’s flagship EV range, featuring premium urban cruisers (Dhahabu), mid-size family cars (Taji), compact eco-friendly models (Amani), luxury executive vehicles (Fahari), and rugged utility models (Makena)—all tailored to meet Africa’s varied transportation needs.

The company says the launch is only the first step, with plans to expand production across Africa through strategic partnerships, local assembly, and ongoing investment in green technology.
