Kenyan rugby team Shujaa will not be sporting the familiar SportPesa branding on their kits in the upcoming playoffs.
The news comes as the team gears up for the game in Madrid starting on May 31, 2024.
The Spanish Betting Laws
This decision is in compliance with Spanish laws prohibiting shirt sponsorships by betting firms, and should not be misconstrued as a deliberate snub by the players or management towards SportPesa, their esteemed partner.
“The boys will not play in SportPesa-branded kits, following a policy with the Spanish laws that prohibit shirt sponsorships by betting firms,” said SportPesa in a statement Thursday.
The journey of the Shujaa team has not been without challenges, most notably their relegation from the HSBC World Sevens Series in May 2023.
Despite this setback, SportPesa stood by the team, demonstrating unwavering support and commitment to their development and success.
