Labour Cabinet Secretary Simon Chelugui has appointed Rose Omamo as the Central Organization for Trade Union’s (COTU) representative to the NSSF Board as directed by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
President Kenyatta issued a directive on May 1, 2022, when he led Kenyans in celebrating Labour Day at Nyayo Stadium in Nairobi.
The Head of State responded to COTU boss Francis Atwoli after he requested him to direct the CS to ensure the person picked by workers to represent them at the NSSF board is gazetted.
In a gazette notice seen by Metropol TV, CS Chelugui stated that Omamo will represent workers at the board for a period of three years, with effect from May 3, 2022.
“In Exercise of the powers conferred by section 6 (d) (ii) of the National Social Security Fund Act, the Cabinet Secretary for Labour appoints Rose Ouma Omamo to be Trustee of the National Social Security Fund Board of Trustees, for a period of three years, with effect from the 3rd May, 2022.”
The gazettement comes barely a day after Atwoli breath out fire to Ministry of Labour over the failure to gazette the appointment of Omamo to the board.
In a statement Thursday, Atwoli accused the ministry of withholding Omamo’s appointment terming it defiance and contempt of the President’s directive.
