The Employment and Labour Court in Nyeri has issued a warrant of arrest against Council of governors Chairperson and Embu Governor Martin Wambora and three other county officials for failing to appear in court on Thursday when the court was issuing a verdict over remittance of workers’ stationary fees.
In a verdict issued last Thursday the court found them guilty of Contempt of court Ruling by failing to remit the Kenya County Government Workers’ union stationary fee thus defying an order by the court directing them to complete the remittance on December 1, 2020.
The county officials include County Secretary Jason Nyaga, Financing and Economic planning Executive John Njagi and Chief Officer Ruth Ndiragu.
Justice Njagi Marete instructed the Nyeri OCS to arrest them, as only the petitioner’s lawyer Lilian Wacheke was present in the court Tuesday with the county lawyer being absent.
The case would continue on March 17, 2022, to review the progress.
While giving his verdict Justice Marete said the county government’s failure to deduct, collect and remit the union’s Ksh.500 fee caused chaos.
“Further, I find that this matter has long been protracted and it is merely an ugly display of back and forth between the union and employer over non-issues,” said Justice Marete
