Nairobi residents to experience a 2-day water interruption

A section of Nairobi residents will experience water interruption beginning Thursday at 6 am, according to Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company limited.

This has been caused by major water leakage from Mwagu water intake along the Chania River to the Ngethu water treatment plant which is currently under repair.

A public notice by Nairobi Water Managing Director Engineer Nahashon Muguna said water shut down will last until Friday at 6 pm.

“We shall strive to complete repairs as soon as possible and resume water supply in Nairobi city,” said Muguna.

The estates that will be affected include the whole of City Centre, Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), University of Nairobi (UoN) main campus, EPZ-Athi River and Coca Cola Factory, Mombasa road South B, South C and the neighbouring areas.

Other areas include;

The whole Industrial area and Upperhill.

Mlango Kubwa, the whole of Mathare, Eastleigh Airforce Base, Huruma, Pangani, Kariobangi, and Eastleigh located along Juja road.

Areas along Jogoo Road to experience water shortage are Baba Dogo, Dandora, Dandora KCC factory, Umoja 1 and 2, Donholm, Fedha, Tassia, Avenue park and Nyayo Embakasi.

Kangundo Road are Ruai, Kayole, Komarock Estate, and Njiru.

Kenya Breweries, Kahawa Sukari, Kenyatta University, Kahawa Barracks, Kasarani, Mwiki, Garden Estate and Thome Estate.

Parklands, Ngara area, Aga Khan hospital, University of Nairobi – School of Law and City Park Area, Gigiri, Kawangware, United Nation- Gigiri, , Areas along Naivasha road and Kikuyu Road, , Riruta/Satellite, Uthiru, Ndwaru Road, Muthaiga , Mountain view and  Kangemi, Uthiru and Waithaka.

James Gichuru Road, Lang’ata Road and Waiyaki Way, Riverside, Westlands, Lavington, Kilimani and Kileleshwa will also lack water.

Madaraka estate, Lang’ata and Kibera along Lang’ata Road.

He also urged people from the affected areas to ensure that they use water sparingly as they wait for the repairs to be done.

“Whilst every effort will be made to restore the supply of water as soon as possible, we request all customers in the affected areas to use water sparingly during the period of interruption. Any inconvenience is highly regretted,” said Muguna.
