Two matatu operators identified as Emmanuel Lwanba and Nicholas Ngawa roughed up a police officer with kicks and blows in Makindani, Mombasa County.
They also made away with Ksh.2000 belonging to the officer.
They have since been arrested by the sleuths from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
The DCI noted that the two confronted the cop in the incident that happen at around 6:30 am.
“Two suspects who assaulted a police officer on traffic duties in Mikindani, Mombasa County have finally been arrested. The officer was busy controlling traffic at around 6:30 am, along the busy Changamwe – Mikindani road, when he was accosted by the two,” DCI said in a statement.
“The duo, a matatu driver and a conductor descended on the traffic cop with heavy blows and kicks, leaving him with a bruised nose and chest pains
“They also took off with his mobile phone and Sh2,000. A manhunt for the two small operating a matatu KBF 578K, was launched leading to the arrest a few hours later,” the DCI added.
Following the incident, DCI warned members of the public against attacking police officers noting that it is a serious offence.
“Members of the public are cautioned against attacking a police officer on duty since it is a serious offence that may land one in serious conflict with the law,” said the DCI.
