Madaraka Express Passenger service gets more coaches on high demand

Kenya Railways Corporation has added more coaches on the Madaraka Express Passenger Service to cater for travel needs ahead of December festivities.

At the same time, passengers in possession of unutilized tickets purchased during the enforcement of the Cessation of Movement have had their rescheduling window extended up to December 31, 2021.

“Please note that tickets will only be rescheduled at least forty eight hours to the intended departure time. Ticket rescheduling on the intended date is subject to availability.” read part of the statement.

Passengers are advised to visit the nearest Madaraka Express Passenger Station and reschedule their tickets over the counter.

They have also been urged to bring along their original identification documents and a copy of ID.

The train service is currently fully booked for the Christmas season as Kenyans seek convenience, fast and affordable travel.

Recently, the  company said that coaches will be increased to 11 from eight for economy class passengers.

First-class passengers will also get an additional unit from the two coaches in operations.

The train is currently pulling eight coaches translating to 944 passengers on economy class tickets while two coaches holding a capacity of about 144 passengers on the first-class tickets.

Kenya Railways has normally increased the train coaches during the holiday season as demand surges.

Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) passenger train  has steadily increased coaches on the  Nairobi-Mombasa route since the SGR passenger train was launched in June 2017.

Kenya Railway is setting a December date for the assumption of seamless day and night train service that links the standard gauge railway (SGR) line to the refurbished Meter Gauge Railway (MGR)

This follows  increased demand due to passengers travelling to their rural homes during the festive season.
